Revealed: Details of Peter Obi’s Private Strategy Meeting with Goodluck Jonathan
Fresh details about a discreet meeting between former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi, which reportedly focused on forging a common front for the 2027 Nigerian presidential race.
According to information obtained by PulseNets, the closed-door engagement occurred on Thursday. Peter Obi later disclosed selective insights on his Facebook and X accounts, confirming that the conversation built on earlier discussions between the two influential leaders.
A reliable source who spoke to PulseNets revealed that this was not an isolated encounter. “They have already met three or four times since Easter, but the previous sittings were intentionally kept off the radar,” the insider said. “The core issue has consistently been which of them should step aside to allow the other to become the coalition’s flagbearer. They understand that competing separately would hand President Bola Tinubu a clear upper hand.”
Another PDP insider told PulseNets that Jonathan has been courted repeatedly by party heavyweights to carry the party’s banner again but is approaching the situation with caution. “Jonathan is deeply aware of the PDP’s internal crises and is waiting for strong guarantees before making any commitments,” the source noted.
Observers say Obi’s camp is equally wary of being edged out in any coalition arrangement. “The Obidient Movement still has reservations about entrusting the African Democratic Congress with their full weight. Many of Obi’s allies doubt whether that structure was ever truly designed to deliver a fair pathway to the presidency,” an insider explained.
Jonathan, who famously lost his re-election bid in 2015, has remained silent on persistent calls urging him to re-enter the race. Meanwhile, Peter Obi, who came third in 2023, is widely expected to contest in 2027. Though he has shown public support for the African Democratic Congress, he has yet to formally abandon the Labour Party or officially join the ADC.

Political analysts stress that both men share overlapping bases in the South East, South South, and Middle Belt—regions critical to any winning coalition. Their mutual understanding, PulseNets reported, suggests that a united Jonathan-Obi strategy could dramatically reshape the 2027 electoral landscape if they manage to bridge party differences and consolidate their support.
