Don’t Touch Peter Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed, HURIWA Warns DSS

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) slammed the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, on Friday for asking the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest the Labour Party’s flag bearer, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, for allegedly ‘riling up’ their supporters, popularly known as ‘Obidients’.

HURIWA also demanded that the National Judicial Council investigate the circumstances surrounding the sighting of the Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola in a wheelchair in the UK at the same time that the controversially returned President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu jetted off to France in what some people claimed was a plot for the duo to meet over the pending election petition filed by Peter Obi.

HURIWA was perplexed as to why the recently appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria suddenly began using a wheelchair as if he was infirm or too sick to lead the judiciary and his mission to London, which is only around 45 minutes by rail from London’s Pancrass International train station.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, the rights group said that the judiciary’s leadership has had several problematic public outings termed politically tainted, which the CJN’s office rejected.

Onwubiko blasted the spokesman for the Bola Tinubu Campaign Council, saying President Muhammadu Buhari should have fired him when he was appointed as a Tinubu campaigner even as a minister.

According to the group, if the secret police get their hands on Obi and Baba-Ahmed, Nigeria will experience unparalleled upheaval.

HURIWA also stated that the APC and its candidate should not believe they have the DSS in their pocket, noting that all legal actions necessary to force the unconstitutional actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the entire government of President Muhammadu Buhari, who saw power as a reward for the former Lagos governor who was said to have installed him in office in 2015.

HURIWA again chastised Keyamo for claiming that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) will absolve Tinubu of all allegations leveled against him by Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite the fact that the panel has yet to begin hearing the matter.

Keyamo had petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday to invite the leaders of the Labour Party (LP) over their rejection of Bola Tinubu’s declaration as President-elect and their pursuit of justice in the courts.
