BREAKING: DSS Planning to Assassinate Me — Sowore Reveals
Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has learnt of what he described as a fresh attempt on his life, accusing the Department of State Services (DSS) of plotting to kill him.
Taking to X, Sowore reported that the DSS, now headed by its Director-General, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, had “declared a full-scale war” against him after he openly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sowore had recently referred to the president as a “criminal” after Tinubu boasted during a state visit to Brazil that corruption had “vanished” under his watch.
According to Sowore, after the DSS obtained support from social media companies like X and Facebook by writing petitions against him, operatives of the secret police allegedly began trailing his friends while gathering intelligence on whistleblowers who leak stories to Sahara Reporters.
He told PulseNets that his media outlet had published an explosive investigation which exposed how a controversial DSS promotion examination led to the deaths of eight officers, sparking discontent within the service. Sowore learnt that, in response, the DSS had now begun arresting and interrogating its own officers suspected of leaking information.
Quoting from sources post made by him, Sowore revealed,
“They warned me clearly that these people have a plan to assassinate me and the DSS is providing the technical assistance to make it happen.”
The activist stressed that this was not the first time his life had been in danger. He recalled that during the Muhammadu Buhari administration, DSS operatives attempted to kill him inside a Federal High Court in Abuja. He alleged that one of those officers, identified as Marshal, had just returned from Bulgaria where he underwent training in what he described as “non-lethal killing techniques.”
Sowore further revealed that the current DSS boss, Ajayi, was no stranger to undercover operations, noting that
“Ajayi began his career as far back as 1990 by pretending to be a student at the University of Benin.”
Meanwhile, Sowore is also entangled in multiple court battles. He reported that Justice M. Umar of the Federal High Court had slated his arraignment on cybercrime charges for next Tuesday in a case filed by the DSS. In a separate legal action, another case brought against him by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is billed for hearing on Monday before Justice M.S. Liman, the same judge who earlier ordered the confiscation of his international passport in January 2025.

Sowore argued that the seizure of his passport had nothing to do with genuine legal grounds but was a deliberate trap.
“It was a calculated move to keep me stranded in Nigeria so they can perfect their worst plans,” he told PulseNets.
