Arsene Wenger’s return to the Emirates after four and a half years was allegedly persuaded by Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal.
On Boxing Day, Wenger watched as the Gunners overcame a goal behind to defeat West Ham 3-1.
The 73-year-old has not been inside the stadium since he quit the team in May 2018.
Arteta responded, “I have been involved in the process,” when asked if he had a significant role in persuading Wenger to come back.
“But it is about him, the timing that he needed to make that step and hopefully he is going to leave here and be willing to spend more time with us and be around us because he’s such an influence.”
The next Premier League match for Arsenal will take place on December 31 against Brighton.
