Team Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, on Sunday at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 200-metre event.
Running in lane 2 of heat 6 of the event’s first round at the Stade de France, Ofili ran a season-best 22.24 seconds to win the heat.
She won ahead of Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who ran in at 22.28 to place second in that heat.
Ofili has, therefore, qualified for Monday evening’s semi-finals.
She is among the 18 athletes, being the top three in the six heats, who have advanced to the next round.
”It was tough winning, but I did it, and I am proud of myself,” Ofili said.

The 21-year-old 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist, however, said the semi-finals was going to be a different ball game.
”It is going to be tougher, but I will do my best to get into the final,” she promised.
