FG Approves New Nigerian Passport Fees Effective September

Federal Government has approved a fresh upward review of the fees for obtaining the Nigerian passport, a development that will officially take effect from September 1, 2024.

The new directive was contained in a statement obtained by PulseNets on Thursday from the spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), A.S. Akinlabi.

According to Akinlabi, the decision was reached to strengthen the quality, security and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, which will fully roll out from September 1, 2025.

In his words, “The review, which applies only to applications made within Nigeria, now pegs the cost of a 32-page passport with 5-year validity at ₦100,000, while the 64-page passport with 10-year validity will now cost ₦200,000.”

Akinlabi further clarified that Nigerians in the diaspora will not be affected by this adjustment. He told PulseNets that “passport applications by Nigerians abroad remain at $150 for the 32-page option with 5-year validity, and $230 for the 64-page option with 10-year validity.”

The Nigeria Immigration Service also reassured citizens of its resolve to keep balancing efficient service delivery with affordability. “Our commitment remains to provide quality, secure and accessible passport services for every Nigerian, whether at home or abroad,” the spokesman added.
