Nigerian Government Suspends Accreditation of Degrees from Benin & Togo

The Federal Government has declared the suspension of the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates obtained from Benin Republic and Togo.

This decision, as communicated in a statement dated Tuesday, January 2, and signed by Augustina Obilor-Duru, representing the Director Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, is in response to an investigative report titled “UNDERCOVER: How DAILY NIGERIAN reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in 6 weeks” published by the Daily Nigerian Newspaper last week.

Expressing concern over the employment of unscrupulous methods by some Nigerians to acquire degrees with the ultimate aim of securing job opportunities for which they are unqualified, the federal government has deemed it necessary to suspend the accreditation process.

The statement indicates that this suspension will persist pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation involving the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education of Nigeria, as well as those of the two countries in question.
