FG, West African Police, and INTERPOL to combat Nigeria's insecurity

To address Nigeria’s insecurity, the Federal Government has signed an agreement with INTERPOL and the West African Police Information Programme (WAPIS).

During a meeting with the international security organisation on Tuesday, Minister of Police Affairs Muhammad Dingyadi made a statement.

Kavanagh Stephen, Executive Director of Police Services for INTERPOL, paid a visit to the Ministry’s Abuja headquarters.

Dingyadi declared that WAPIS and INTERPOL are prepared to assist Nigeria in securing the nation.

The minister emphasised that crimes are intricate and vary depending on the locality, calling on all parties to work together to solve the problem.

Due to the security services’ reluctance to share the information at their disposal, Dingyadi admitted that there used to be a lack of coordination among them.

“We have a lot of criminal issues. We require cooperation from anywhere that will assist us to curb these criminalities”, he told Stephen.

Speaking, the director said exchange of information among security, border and intelligence agencies would lead to credible and up-to-date data.

“We are not here to have a nice time. We are here to make sure we understand how WAPIS can support West Africa to share data among security agencies effectively”, Stephen added.
