Breaking: Fire Engulfs Bayelsa Medical University Female Hostel

Many feared dead as tanker explodes at Iganmu bridge

Bayelsa Medical University — Parts of a female hostel located along Imgbi Road on the campus of the State Medical University were gutted by a fire in the early hours of the morning.

PulseNets reports that the fire, believed to have started around 6:40 am, was ignited by an electrical spark when a student was ironing her clothes.

This newspaper learnt that the flames quickly spread, causing a state of alarm among the residents.

The student is said to have raised the alarm, alerting her fellow students and causing a rush to find safety.

Prompt action was reportedly taken as personnel from both the Federal and Bayelsa State Fire Services swiftly arrived at the scene to tackle the emergency. Their swift response prevented the fire from engulfing other rooms in the block.

Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, the Vice Chancellor of the State Medical University, and Phillip Diete-Spiff, the Chief Security Officer, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the fire service officials for their efficient and timely intervention.

There were no casualties or physical injuries reported among the students. However, the fire destroyed personal belongings belonging to the occupants of the affected rooms.
