A fire incident was recorded on Saturday at one of the offices of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) located within its Abuja headquarters, coming just days before the scheduled January 2026 rollout of Nigeria’s new tax laws.

PulseNets learnt that the incident was confirmed by Mr Sikiru Akinola, spokesperson to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji.

According to information obtained by PulseNets, the fire originated on the fourth floor of the affected building and was swiftly noticed by security personnel on duty within the premises.

Akinola told PulseNets that the rapid response of the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, supported by other emergency agencies, ensured the situation was brought under control without escalating to other sections of the headquarters.

“We are thankful that no casualties were recorded as a result of the incident,” he stated, adding that “some offices on the affected floor were, however, damaged by the fire.”

PulseNets further gathered that investigations have already commenced to determine the exact cause of the outbreak, with early assessments pointing to a likely electrical fault.

“While investigations continue, we are reviewing and reinforcing all internal safety measures to prevent a recurrence,” Akinola disclosed.
