Fish Magnet: How my son was killed — Mother opens up

Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, the grieving mother of late businessman and CEO of Fish Magnate Group, Martins Ifesinachi Onyekesi aka Fish Magnet, has for the first time spoken publicly about her son’s killing.

In an exclusive interaction, Mrs. Onyekesi told PulseNets that contrary to circulating allegations, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo had no hand in the tragic death of her son. She stressed that certain individuals were deliberately attempting to politicise the tragedy.

The late Martins Onyekesi, a respected young entrepreneur, was abducted last month. Despite reports of a ransom being paid, PulseNets learnt that his captors murdered him and abandoned his remains at a location where the family later recovered them.

Speaking when members of the Soludo support group, Geeks and Founders Alliance for Soludo (GEFAS), visited her residence, the heartbroken APGA Woman Leader described the incident as a deliberate and targeted attack.

“They waited for him while he was coming home, and as he alighted from his car to open the gate, they attacked him. I believe it was a targeted attack,” she said.

Mrs. Onyekesi also refuted allegations made by activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, linking Governor Soludo to her son’s death.

“Governor Soludo is not in any way responsible for the death of my son. We all know that Anambra is now better in terms of security than Soludo met it.

I have heard such remarks that the governor was responsible for my son’s death, but it’s all lies. Will Soludo come to every home to mount guard?

In fact, I should even be thankful to the governor because that night when my son was taken, a lot of our party people heard it and were calling, and the governor also reached out to me and also connected me with the police commissioner in an attempt to get my son out.”

PulseNets learnt that Mrs. Onyekesi accused unnamed politicians of trying to use her bereavement as a tool to fight the Anambra State Governor, but she has consistently resisted such attempts.

“I have been visited by several persons, including politicians who want to turn the whole thing into politics. Some of them I see them, others I refuse to see them, but I have rejected every move to make it political.

I have read news of people blaming the governor for it, but that is not true. I dare say that the governor is doing his best in security, and Anambra is better than what it used to be,” she said.

The remains of Martins Ifesinachi Onyekesi will be laid to rest on 28 August 2025 in his hometown, Ikenga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

During the condolence visit, GEFAS Coordinator, Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, spoke to PulseNets on behalf of the group, assuring the Onyekesi family of their unwavering prayers and solidarity during this painful period.
