Rashidi Ladoja, the former Governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadan, has expressed his lack of interest in the upcoming elevation of his status from a chief to an Oba wearing a beaded crown. He firmly stated that he wants to remain the Olubadan and not assume an elevated Oba title.
Ladoja made this known during an interview with journalists at his residence on Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan, shortly after observing Eid at the University of Ibadan Muslims praying ground.
In response to the plan by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to elevate the high chiefs in Ibadan to Obaship status next month, Ladoja said, “You don’t fix what is not broken.”
Governor Makinde recently signed the Chieftaincy Amendment Bill into law, granting him the authority to present beaded crowns and coronets to chiefs in the state. It was reported that the Governor has given his consent to the promotion of the high chiefs, who will be officially installed as traditional rulers on Friday, July 7, 2023.
