Fubara in charge of Rivers structure — PDP Govs dare Wike, get NWC backing

Appeal Court Nullifies Judgment Seeking to Seize Rivers State Allocation

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have firmly stood by their recognition of Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State. PulseNets learnt that this endorsement remains despite ongoing tensions.

PulseNets reported that a power struggle has emerged between the former governor, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara over control of the party’s leadership structure in the state. Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued stern warnings to PDP governors, urging them to steer clear of Rivers State. Wike threatened to escalate matters by causing unrest in their respective states if they continue supporting his former protégé.

Reacting to these fiery remarks, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed, made it clear that the support for Fubara is unwavering. Speaking to PulseNets after a meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Mohammed, also the incumbent governor of Bauchi State, reiterated that the PDP governors’ decision is final.

Addressing reporters, Mohammed emphasized, “The decision is in order and that is how it is supposed to be. Governor Fubara is the leader of the party in the state. It is along this line that we collectively agreed for the rule of law, and the delegation gave their firm commitment and support for the position of the PDP Governors Forum in Rivers State.”

He further stated that Governor Fubara, as the top member of the PDP in Rivers State, should be allowed full control over the party’s structure. PulseNets learnt that the NWC delegation has also aligned with this stance.

Acknowledging the complex relationship between Wike and Fubara, Mohammed told PulseNets, “We all know the relationship between the FCT Minister and the current Governor of Rivers state which is that of the mentor and the mentee. We are working behind the scenes to ensure they come together to work in a manner that PDP is known for.”

“Certainly, it is not something we can dictate here, but we have summoned the courage and the will to ensure that the correct thing is done,” Mohammed said.
