Fulani Tricyclist killed indigene over N50 in Yenagoa, angry youths retaliates

On Wednesday in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, some angry youths killed a Fulani tricycle operator. This was in response to the stabbing to death of a young man, Douglas by the same tricycle operator, who was also known as a Keke rider. The victim was reportedly killed after an argument over N50 change, and he died immediately.

The Keke rider’s actions angered some residents in the area who lynched him to death with stones. The identities of keke driver and his accomplice are unknown at the time of reporting as eye witness told PulseNets that another Hausa man was also killed in the process for aiding the keke driver.

Many tricycles (Keke) belonging to the Hausa drivers were destroyed in the process.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the incidents and released a statement condemning both the murder of the youth and the subsequent lynching of the tricycle operator. The command has deployed an anti-riot squad to restore peace in Kpansia and its environs, and they appeal to the community to remain calm.

He said, “The Bayelsa State Police Command has deployed an anti-riot squad to restore normalcy at Kpansia and environs, over the unfortunate murder of a community youth by a tricycle rider.

“The youth was allegedly stabbed to death by the tricycle rider over a minor disagreement.

“The Command condemns the action of the tricycle rider, who was also lynched to death by irate youths and appeal to members of the community to be calm.”
