Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in what political observers describe as one of the most significant defections in the South-East ahead of 2027.

The development, PulseNets learnt, followed months of consultations and internal deliberations within the Enugu political circle. Governor Mbah made the formal announcement during a press conference held in Enugu on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Explaining the rationale behind his decision, the governor told PulseNets that his move was guided by the desire to “serve the people of Enugu more effectively” through a party that aligns with his administration’s vision for sustainable progress.

“After a period of deep reflection and wide consultation, I have chosen to leave the PDP and join the APC in order to strengthen our state’s developmental trajectory,” Mbah stated.

He noted that the defection marks not just a political shift but a strategic alignment with the federal government’s direction on infrastructure, innovation, and inclusive governance. According to Mbah, this alignment would open new windows of opportunity for the people of Enugu to benefit from national development policies.

“Joining the APC offers our state a greater chance to collaborate more effectively with the centre for the benefit of Ndi Enugu,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to transparent leadership and people-driven governance.

During the event, PulseNets reported that Governor Mbah sang the popular APC anthem, “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand,” shortly after announcing his defection — an act that drew cheers from party supporters and aides present at the conference.

The Enugu governor further reiterated his loyalty to the aspirations of the people, emphasizing that his administration would continue to prioritize policies that empower youth, improve infrastructure, and foster economic growth in the state.

“Our focus remains the same — to deliver good governance, peace, and prosperity to every community in Enugu State,” Mbah concluded.
