PulseNets has learned that reports circulating on social media claiming that former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) are untrue.
Speaking exclusively to PulseNets on Thursday, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare clarified that Ngige was not arrested but merely invited for questioning regarding certain activities that occurred during his tenure as minister.
Bakare, in his conversation with PulseNets, explained that Ngige was questioned and then allowed to leave, adding that he has been instructed to return for further interrogation at a later date.
“The former Labour minister, Chris Ngige, was not arrested. He was invited for questioning related to his previous ministry’s activities. After the questioning, he was permitted to leave and asked to report back for further investigation,” Bakare told PulseNets.

The ICPC spokesperson urged the public to dismiss the false claims circulating online and called on journalists to verify their information to avoid spreading misleading reports.
These clarifications from Bakare come amidst heightened social media speculation, with some users falsely linking Ngige’s invitation to ongoing corruption investigations.
