IGP Cautions Police Patrol Vehicles Against Traffic Rules Violation

Insecurity: 10,852 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, bandits arrested in three months: Police

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has cautioned police patrol vehicles against violating traffic rules.

Egbetokun gave the order on Monday during a strategic meeting with Squadron Commanders of the Police Mobile Force and Special Protection Unit (SPU).

The IGP stressed that the maintenance of law and order, as well as the protection of lives and properties, are the main responsibilities of the police. He said that police officers must strictly adhere to the code of conduct of the Force and conduct themselves in a manner that would command them respect from the public.

“I have observed with dismay that some police patrol vehicles have been flouting traffic rules,” Egbetokun said. “This is unacceptable and must stop immediately. Police officers must set a good example by obeying traffic rules.”

The IGP also charged the force to tackle banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, and other security threats affecting the country.

“I urge you to be more proactive in your approach to crime-fighting,” he said. “We must not allow criminals to take over our country.”
