37 people have died in floods caused by heavy rains in Adamawa State during rainy season.
58 other individuals were injured, according to the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), which confirmed the human casualty.
According to the agency, 171,000 people were affected overall, and 89,000 hectres of agriculture were swamped.
The flood was especially destructive, according to Dr. Muhammad Suleiman, Executive Secretary of ADSEMA, in the local government districts of Madagali, Fufore, Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk, and Shelleng.
At the weekend, the head of ADSEMA told the media that homes, as well as other buildings like schools, hospitals, markets, and places of worship, were impacted.
Suleiman claimed that despite predictions that just frontline LGAs along the banks of the River Benue would be affected, the flood affected a large portion of the State.
“For instance, Madagali, which was not expected to experience flooding, was hit by the disaster more than the predicted LGAs,” , he said, noting that Madagali had never previously seen high rainfall and flooding.
He claimed that out of the 37 total victims, five from Madagali died and six more were hospitalised.
He gave assurance that aid had been supplied, stating that the agency had distributed food and non-food items in all 10 camps established for internally displaced people in accordance with the instructions of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (IDPs).
