In Akwa Ibom, a crowd greets Senator Akpan return from jail

Thousands of supporters of the Young Democratic Party, YPP, governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom, Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, on Thursday stormed the streets of Uyo to welcome the politician back from prison.

PulseNets recalls that on December 1, 2022, an Uyo Federal High Court, led by Justice Agatha Okeke sentenced the Senator to 42 years imprisonment for corruption.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned Albert for receiving exotic cars worth N204m from a contractor of the Akwa Ibom State Government, Jide Omokare.

The Uyo Senatorial District Senator was, however, granted bail on Wednesday by a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

In order to protect Akpan’s health, the court granted him bail while an appeal was being heard.

Running mate AIG Asuquo Amba Rtd welcomed Akpan and his throng of fans, saying that Akpan’s liberation was an answer to prayer.

Amba said that while visiting the prison, Senator Akpan gave out medical supplies and helped free some prisoners whose bail amounts were too high.

Assuring the audience that her husband will work to secure the prosperity and well-being of all Akwa Ibomites, the senator’s wife, Mrs. Imaobong Albert, also made the point during her speech that Akwa Ibom belongs to them all and that they have the right to select who governs them.

She expressed her gratitude to everyone for their support, persistence, and love for her spouse.

Both the Director General, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, and the Chairman of the Campaign Council, Sir Emem Akpabio, asked the electorate to support OBA on election day in order to ensure the fulfilment of God’s purpose.

His wife, Pastor Mrs. Imaobong Bassey Albert, his running companion, AIG Amba, and members of the YPP in Akwa Ibom were present to welcome Senator Akpan.
