The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promoted over 5,196 staff members across various levels. This promotion exercise, driven by the 2023 evaluation and examination, reflects INEC’s dedication to its workforce’s welfare and growth.
The promotions span all ranks, with 55 deputy directors (Grade Level 16) ascending to directors (Grade Level 17). Assistant directors (Grade Level 15) saw 54 promotions to deputy director roles, and 338 officers on Grade Level 14 advanced to assistant director positions. The majority of promotions – 4,749 – fall within Grades 7 to 13, illustrating widespread career progression opportunities within INEC.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the commission has announced the departure of four directors on terminal leave. This decision aligns with a July 27, 2023, Federal Government directive mandating retirement for directors with 8 years or more of service.

National Commissioner Sam Olumekun confirmed the departures, clarifying that two departing directors held departmental leadership roles at the commission headquarters, while the other two served as Administrative Secretaries in state offices.
