The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Bayelsa State governorship election.
Diri polled 175,196 votes to defeat his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 110,108 votes, coming behind Sylva is Udengs Eradiri of Labour Party (LP) who surprisingly pulled only 905 votes.
INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Faruq Kuta, made the declaration on Monday at the Collation Centre in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Kuta said Diri, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes, was hereby declared the winner of the election.

Diri’s victory was greeted with jubilation by his supporters, who thronged the Collation Centre to celebrate with him.
