INEC deploys 3,508 BVAS for presidential election in Kogi
The Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, or BVAS, has been deployed by the Independent National Election Commission, or INEC, in 3,508 units for the Kogi State elections for the Presidency, the House of Representatives, and the State Legislative Assembly.
This was revealed by Dr. Gabriel Longpet, the resident electoral commissioner for the Kogi State Independent National Electoral Commission, on Tuesday in Lokoja.
According to Longpet, 1.9 million people in Kogi State are likely to cast ballots on February 25.
He agreed that certain BVAS had issues during the simulated INEC exercise, but he emphasized that they had been replaced because INEC has numerous backups in case any equipment breaks.
Adding that they had checked the Central Bank of Nigeria regarding the materials provided to Kogi State, he claimed that INEC had sent materials to all local government areas.
According to him, Kogi received materials for the elections for the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly.
He emphasizes that the safety of voters as they exercise their rights will be secured and that the issue of security is crucial to the conduct of the election.
Longpet emphasized that security authorities were alerted of the obnoxious development and that the commission has received reports of instances when some political parties were prohibited from conducting demonstrations.
The INEC REC made a suggestion that security organizations had assured the Commission that all voters, including their employees, would be safe prior to, during, and after the election.
On election day, he predicted there would be travel limitations, but he also emphasized INEC’s unwavering commitment to a transparent, free, and fair process.
