The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare Nigeria’s support for Palestine in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas terrorist sect.

The Islamic group, under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, also condemned the United States’ Government of Joe Biden for backing Israel in the ongoing Israel/Hamas war.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Prof. Salisu Shehu and Yunus Ustaz Usman (SAN); NSCIA Deputy Secretary General and National Legal Adviser on Monday.

The group also expressed sadness over the outbreak of deadly and devastating war on the besieged Palestinians in Gaza and asked the Nigerian government to render help to Palestine like what they did during the fight against apartheid in South Africa and for the sake of humanity and justice.

The NSCIA enjoined the Nigerian government “to come out and stand clearly with the helpless victims of persistent Israeli persecution, massacre, oppression and suppression.”

The statement said that the savagery of the assaults was heart-rending and that the horrendous attacks on civilians were unfortunate thus demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities against Gaza.

The council said that there should be no double standards regarding the enthronement of sustainable peace and that while it is desirable to toe the path of peace, peace without justice would only precipitate future crises.
