Festus Keyamo, a spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has blasted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the assertion made by Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP National Chairman, that Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, requested a N1 billion loan from him in 2021.
According to PulseNets, Ayu said on Friday that Atiku asked him to borrow N1 billion from a bank when they took over the party’s leadership since the party’s fund was insufficient. This was in response to accusations made against him by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
He claims that after careful examination, Atiku’s proposal was rejected since, contrary to Wike’s claims, he has never received N1 billion from anyone.
“When we came in, and the party had funding difficulties, the current presidential candidate suggested that the party should take a loan of N1bn from a bank.
“And the owner of that bank was also an influential member of this party. He has left the party now. But when we discussed with him, we discarded the idea”, he said.
In response, Keyamo noted PDP’s criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over borrowing in a message on his official Twitter account, saying that the main opposition party’s issue is “their hypocrisy.”
He wrote, “Nigerians should see the same party that complains about the fact that we borrow in some cases to fund infrastructure.
“They have not even won an election, they are suggesting taking loans to run their party! The problem with the PDP is their hypocrisy that stinks to high heavens”.
