Emeka Wobido, a young man from the Obelle community in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, was killed by suspected herdsmen who were present in the area.
Last week, some herders in the area claimed that residents of the Obelle hamlet had slaughtered over 20 of their cows and threatened to deal with the residents.
According to reports, the Emohua municipal council authorities were informed with the threat and they also got involved.
On Sunday, some residents of the neighbourhood said that Wobido, who had been discovered dead in farmland near the border between the Obelle and Elele settlements, had been “stabbed to death” by the accused herdsmen as retaliation for the alleged murder of their cows.
Even though “the council authorities were trying to resolve the crisis”.
Richard Amadi, the youth president of the Obelle community, who corroborated the incident, voiced displeasure over the killing.
He demanded that the security services and the administration act quickly.
The corpse has been removed by police officials assigned to the Rumuji police station.
