Absence of Nigerian Airlines in Top 20 Global Rankings Despite Interventions
Despite various efforts to enhance their operations, none of the Nigerian airlines have secured a position in the prestigious top 20 global airline rankings. The evaluation criteria utilized by Airline Ratings and Skytrax World Airline Awards encompass multiple factors, including safety records, punctuality, passenger comfort, service quality, frequent flyer programs, global network, environmental sustainability efforts, and price competitiveness.
According to the rankings, Qatar Airways, the flagship carrier of Qatar and a member of the OneWorld airline alliance, has claimed the top spot as the world’s best airline. Singapore Airlines, the national carrier of Singapore, operating primarily from Singapore Changi Airport, secured the second position. Qantas, Australia’s national airline and flag carrier, with primary hubs located at Brisbane Airport, Melbourne Airport, and Sydney Airport, obtained the third position. Korean Air, a prominent airline and the national flag carrier of South Korea, achieved the fourth spot.
Renowned Japanese airline All Nippon Airways and Etihad Airways, representing the United Arab Emirates, occupied the fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Other notable airlines in the rankings include Turkish Airlines, Japan Airlines, Emirates, EVA Air, Air France-KLM, Cathay Pacific Airways, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Air New Zealand, Finnair, Virgin Australia, JetBlue, Alaska Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines.

While Nigerian airlines have yet to make their mark on the global stage, continuous efforts to improve various aspects of their operations could lead to future recognition and inclusion in such esteemed rankings.
