Nigerian Immigration Detains Activist, Confiscates Passport
Prominent Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore, the 2019 and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, ACC following his return to Nigeria was detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service upon arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on this morning. The activist was traveling from the United States.
According to the activist’s statement on social media, their passport was confiscated, and they were informed that they had been ordered to be detained.
The activist attributed this action to the ongoing crackdown on dissent by the current Nigerian government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the statement, the activist urged Nigerians to participate in planned direct actions scheduled for October 1st and beyond, as part of the “FearlessINOctober” movement aimed at ending bad governance in Nigeria.
