1. A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, of diverting armament funding from the office of the National Security Adviser. On Monday, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu ruled that the prosecution established a case of money laundering against Okupe and fined him N13 million.

2. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, voiced alarm on Monday that ongoing assaults on its infrastructure were jeopardising the success of the 2023 polls. The commission also expressed regret that previous efforts to restrict vote-buying had failed, saying that the vice might jeopardise the success of the elections.

3. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, met with leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, among others, on Monday, and pledged to abolish unemployment if elected in 2023. The APC candidate was presented with their demands, which included a comprehensive war on corruption, at the gathering.

Policemen from the Lagos State Police Command’s Sagamu Road Police Division are accused of shooting dead a motorcyclist, Stephen Alabi, alias Doctor, near Sabo Market in the Ikorodu region of the state. Alabi and his colleagues were alleged to be at a park near the Sabo Market when police arrived to seize motorcycles from riders who were violating the state’s motorcycle ban in specified areas.

5. Military raids including Air Force officers have killed at least 40 bandits in Malele village, Dansadau Local Government Area, Zamfara State. The Air Force was said to have neutralised the terrorists in their hideouts in the area during a series of airstrikes carried out by the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji.

6. Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said Friday that the persistent issue afflicting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level will be resolved shortly. He made the remarks while speaking to Benue State PDP stakeholders at the Government House in Makurdi.

7. Petroleum product marketers on the platform of the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA) have distanced themselves from the traumatic scarcity and high cost of petroleum products, claiming that the calamitous development is the result of market forces and logistics challenges beyond their control. Mr Benneth Korie, the Association’s National President, revealed this yesterday.

Alex Otti, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Abia State, has cleared the air on the dispute surrounding the money the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alleged he left as Governor of Anambra State, claiming that Obi was correct in his allegation. Otti, who was the CEO of Diamond Bank at the time, stated that he oversaw the transaction and was aware of the State’s stake.

9. Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, has accused all political parties of excluding women from the 2023 general election. She claimed that after years of sensitising women and encouraging them to run for office, the leadership of all political parties seized the party structures and excluded women.

10. The Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Okoita, in the state’s Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, has sentenced a man, Kingsley Eyo, to ten years in jail for kidnapping a six-year-old child, Godnews Essien. Eyo, 34, of Ikot Otoinyie village in the Uruan Local Government Area, was found guilty by the court and sentenced on Monday by Justice Okon Okon.
