Nnamdi Kanu’s Release, Anioma State Creation Key to Lasting Peace in Southeast — Ned Nwoko

The Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has expressed confidence that the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, would significantly restore peace and stability across the Southeast region.

He explained that the region has endured prolonged unrest and insecurity, largely driven by feelings of political marginalisation and systemic exclusion by successive governments.

In remarks obtained by PulseNets, Nwoko noted that peace has persistently eluded the Southeast due to “a deep-seated sense of injustice,” which continues to fuel separatist agitations.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme monitored by PulseNets, the lawmaker maintained that addressing the grievances of the Southeast requires deliberate political and structural reforms, including the creation of Anioma State and the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu.

According to him, “The challenges confronting the Southeast stem from perceived injustice and marginalisation by successive administrations. What the region needs now is fairness, inclusion, and dialogue.”

He further told PulseNets that “If the government can create Anioma State — to balance the number of states across the geopolitical zones — and also release Nnamdi Kanu, I am almost certain peace will return to the Southeast.”

The senator emphasised that these measures would not only calm tensions but also rekindle a sense of belonging among the people of the Southeast. He urged the Federal Government to take decisive steps toward healing long-standing wounds of distrust and alienation.

Nwoko added that sustainable peace can only be achieved when every region in Nigeria feels represented and treated equitably, stressing that “the current imbalance continues to threaten national cohesion.”
