Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State says that former President Olusegun Obasanjo lacks political clout to campaign for Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
He said that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential contender, had stronger political credentials than the former President.
Masari stated this during an interview with TVC in response to a query on the significance of Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi.
Remember that Obasanjo stated in his letter to Nigerians on Sunday, January 1, 2023, that Obi is the most capable hand to govern Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former President identified Obi as his mentor, adding that the former Anambra State Governor had an advantage over other presidential candidates.
Governor Masari, on the other hand, feels Obasanjo’s backing of Obi is meaningless.
Obasanjo, he claims, cannot even persuade members of his family to vote for Obi, let alone the entire country.
“Obasanjo cannot sway members of his family let alone sway the nation. Everybody has served, Let’s bring their credentials of service to their people; to the country and be honest and objective, who has more credentials? But for me, when you put them on the table, I will pick Asiwaju” , he said.
In addition, the governor accused the Labour Party of basing its campaign on religious and ethnic sensitivities.
“The action which the Labour Party is taking is built along ethnoreligious considerations. Beyond the social media, beyond the media hype, who are your people on ground in the north?” Masari asked.
Masari is a staunch backer of Tinubu’s presidential bid in the north.
