Parliamentary Workers Join Labour Unions in Strike, Shut Down National Assembly Gates

Parliamentary workers have shut down the gates of the National Assembly complex in Abuja, joining the ongoing strike by labour unions.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) announced an indefinite nationwide strike on Tuesday despite a court order restraining the unions from doing so. The strike was called in protest of an assault on Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, on November 1 in Imo State.

At the National Assembly complex at 12:23 p.m., all the gates were locked. Many workers were seen stranded at the entrance. However, plenary was still ongoing in the House of Representatives.
