Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president, has responded to the nationwide protests held on Saturday by his followers, also known as the Obidients.
The Obidients organised nonviolent protests in Lagos, Bauchi, Edo, and other cities, including London, to mark the nation’s Independence Day celebration.
In a statement released on Sunday morning, Obi responded by saying that October 1, 2022, will be remembered as the day “as a day Nigerians spoke with one united voice.”
The message, according to Obi, was straightforward and clear: “a new nigeria is possible!”
He said, “From Lagos, Bauchi, Benin City, Warri, Osogbo, Kaduna, Uyo, Aba, London, New York and many more, OBIdients made a bold statement with generally very peaceful rallies.”
Millions of Nigerians from all ethnic backgrounds and genders marched, according to Obi, to express their unity and support for “our collective vision of a New Nigeria.”
He praised the young people of Nigeria for their “passion, resolve, and resiliency,” emphasising that they had demonstrated to everyone in the world that Nigeria was ready for change and that the majority of them were prepared to take the lead.
“Our labours shall never be in vain and there is no stopping us now.” the former governor of Anambra State remarked in appreciation of the sacrifices made by his supporters.
