Phyna’s Sister: Dangote Group Promises Full Support and Compensation

The Dangote Group has officially confirmed that one of its trucks was involved in the accident that left Ruth Otabor, sister to Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, severely injured in Auchi, Edo State.

In a statement released on Thursday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the company addressed growing public outrage and demands for justice for Ruth Otabor.

Phyna, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, had taken to her social media accounts to cry out for justice for her sister, revealing that both of Ruth’s legs had to be amputated due to the severity of the crash. PulseNets learnt that in the past 24 hours, prominent Nollywood stars, including Kate Henshaw, have joined the call for justice, amplifying the pressure on the cement giant.

Reacting to the incident, Dangote Group pledged to provide comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation in accordance with its welfare policy. The company told PulseNets that senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, alongside its insurance team, had visited both the scene of the accident and the victim’s family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State.

Quoting the statement, the company said:

“Following the recent road accident in Auchi, Edo State, involving one of our trucks, which sadly resulted in injury to Mrs. Ruth Otabor, senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, together with our insurance team, promptly visited the scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and visited the victim and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State.

“This action reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring full support for Mrs. Otabor, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy.
