Police Reject ₦100m Bribe, Intercept 60 Tonnes of Stolen Railway Materials in Nasarawa

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have turned down a ₦100 million inducement after intercepting about 60 tonnes of vandalised railway components in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The enforcement action, executed by the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), resulted in the arrest of two individuals on April 9, 2026, following actionable intelligence obtained by security operatives.

Those taken into custody, identified as Chisom Goodnews, 32, and Ahmed Adamu, 22, were apprehended in connection with the illicit movement of critical rail infrastructure.

Police investigations revealed that the recovered items, which include railway tracks and sleepers, were deliberately hidden beneath sacks of groundnut shells inside a trailer truck to avoid detection.

Authorities further disclosed that the consignment was being moved from Bauchi State en route to Ilorin as part of an attempt to bypass security scrutiny.

Preliminary findings obtained by investigators indicate that the truck driver was engaged for ₦2.5 million to transport the vandalised materials.

Additional intelligence gathered points to the existence of a coordinated network involving buyers and handlers of stolen public infrastructure.

The trailer truck used for the operation has since been secured, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend other members of the syndicate.

Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, commended the operatives for refusing the bribe, describing their actions as a strong demonstration of professionalism and institutional integrity.
