Presidency Denies Reports of Tinubu’s Planned U.S. Visit to Meet Vice President JD Vance

The Presidency has debunked claims that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to travel to the United States on Tuesday to meet with U.S. Vice President JD Vance following President Donald Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

The clarification came through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, who in a post obtained by PulseNets on Monday, dismissed the report as “fake news with no basis in fact.”

Ajayi, reacting via his verified X handle, stated that the claims originated from Sahara Reporters and have since been amplified by uninformed commentators. He said, “There’s a circulating Sahara Reporters story alleging that President Tinubu will travel to the U.S. to meet Vice President J.D. Vance. That report is false. I’ve noticed that this fabricated story has become the basis for several misguided analyses since yesterday.”

He added, “If President Tinubu were going to the White House, it certainly wouldn’t be to meet a vice president. Such a claim is laughable and entirely misleading.”

PulseNets learnt that Sahara Reporters had earlier alleged President Tinubu’s planned U.S. trip for “high-level diplomatic discussions” amid rising tensions surrounding accusations of Christian persecution and speculated threats of U.S. sanctions or military intervention.

According to that publication, unnamed diplomatic sources claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump had asked Vice President James David Vance to receive President Tinubu in Washington, pending any last-minute adjustments — a report now firmly denied by the Nigerian Presidency.

Meanwhile, government sources who spoke to PulseNets emphasised that the President’s current diplomatic schedule does not include any U.S. trip this week, adding that official foreign engagements will always be communicated through the appropriate channels.
