Reps declare Gbajabiamila’s seat vacant after resignation

Gbajabiamila submits Tinubu’s supplementary ministerial list to Senate

Following the resignation of Femi Gbajabiamila as the lawmaker representing Surulere Lagos Constituency, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has declared his seat vacant.

The declaration followed Mr Gbajabiamila’s letter of resignation in Abuja on Wednesday at the plenary under personal explanation.

“We have today declared the seat of Surulere Lagos Constituency vacant following the resignation of Gbajabiamila,“ said Mr Abbas after receiving the letter and reading it to members.

Mr Gbajabiamila, the former speaker of the house, said in his letter of resignation addressed to his successor that he would be taking up a new role as the Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Bola Tinubu.

The immediate past speaker further said he would cease to be a 10th House of Reps member.

The president had earlier appointed Mr Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff.

Mr Gbajabiamila commended the house and people of his federal constituency following his appointment by the president.

Before leaving the chamber, Mr Gbajabiamila moved a motion of urgent public importance,” Need for the federal and state governments to take action to mitigate the effect flood devastation.”
