The House of Representatives Summons Naira Marley and Mohbad’s Legal Team Over Royalties
In a move aimed at investigating the royalties of the late former signee Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, the House of Representatives has summoned Azeez Fashola, the singer known as Naira Marley, and Mohbad’s legal team. The investigation is set to be conducted by a panel composed of committees on youth, justice, and legislative compliance.
The summons, conveyed through a letter from the panel’s clerk, Yusuf Ibrahim, officially invites Naira Marley and Mohbad’s legal team to a meeting scheduled for October 31. The purpose of this meeting is to delve into the circumstances surrounding the royalties and other benefits of Mohbad during his tenure under Naira Marley’s Marlian Records.
The letter reads, “The House Committees on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance invite you and the legal team of MOHBAD for an interactive meeting session as regards a referral received being a resolution of the House of Representatives during their plenary session on Tuesday, 26th September 2023. The aim is to ascertain the level of your interaction with other relevant copyright organizations. Such information will guide the committee on further legislative action.”

Mohbad, aged 27, passed away on September 12, just weeks after petitioning the Assistant Inspector-General of Police regarding threats to his life. These threats were allegedly made by socialite Sam Larry and his associates, who reportedly attacked Mohbad while he was shooting a video with Zlatan. The investigation is further compounded by the surfacing of several videos accusing Naira Marley of threatening his former signee, Mohbad, after the singer’s untimely demise.
