Reps urge the FG to reconsider its decision to halt the Lagos-Calabar rail

Breaking: House of Representatives to Halve Salaries for 6 Months to Address Hardship

The Lagos-Calabar coastal railway line is currently being built, according to a request from the House of Representatives to the federal government.

The decision was taken by the legislators on Tuesday after they approved a motion submitted by Dozzie Ferdinand in plenary.

In his motion, Mr. Ferdinand informed his colleagues that the project was halted this year by the Ministry of Transportation due to budget issues.

He mentioned that the Exim Bank of China had promised to contribute $11 billion to the project, and that the federal executive council had approved its construction in 2017.

The legislator disclosed that FG changed the investor to Standard Chartered Bank to deliver the funds later.

Despite the project’s significance to the south, he pointed out, the Ministry eventually announced the project’s suspension.
