Resident Doctors Declare 5-day Nationwide Warning Strike
The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has officially announced a five-day warning strike beginning Friday, 12 September 2025, in a decisive move to amplify their long-standing demands.
According to details obtained by PulseNets on Thursday, Agbor Affiong, the General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration, confirmed the planned action in a formal statement.
The resolution to embark on the industrial action, PulseNets reported, came after NARD’s virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday night, which extended into the early hours of Thursday, 11 September 2025.
Quoting directly from the communiqué seen by PulseNets, the statement declared:
“Following the NARD E-NEC meeting convened on Wednesday, the 10th of September 2025, and stretching into the early hours of Thursday, the 11th of September 2025, members of the NEC unanimously resolved to commence a five-day warning strike.
The industrial action will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 12 September 2025, and conclude on Tuesday, 16 September 2025.
All centres are hereby directed to duly notify their hospital managements and to persist in pressing home our collective demands.”
In a separate development earlier in the week, NARD President Osundara Zenith told PulseNets on Tuesday that the association’s members are prepared to shut down public hospitals nationwide. He explained that the strike is to demand immediate government intervention on poor working conditions, irregular power supply, the downgrading of medical certificates, inadequate remuneration, and other lingering grievances affecting the nation’s healthcare system.
