Rivers Crisis: Petition Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention, Demands Removal of FCT Minister Wike

A new petition has been forwarded to President Bola Tinubu calling for the immediate removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over claims connected to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, PulseNets learned.

The petition alleges that the minister’s actions are capable of escalating tension in the state and urges the President to order an urgent investigation into his conduct while in public office, PulseNets reported.

The document was authored by Nigerian political scientist Kio Amachree and dated February 8, 2026. It was formally addressed to the President in his capacity as “President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Amachree described the situation in Rivers State as “dangerous, provocative, and unnecessary,” cautioning that federal involvement, if not properly handled, could push the state toward serious instability.

According to the petitioner, his intervention was strictly personal and not driven by political interests. He stated:
“I do not belong to any political party. I have no political ambition. I have no ties to any Nigerian politician. I am not writing on behalf of any political group.”

He explained that his concerns were rooted in the need to preserve peace, constitutional order, and justice in Rivers State and across the Niger Delta region.

Amachree also strongly criticised the scale of security deployment in the state. He argued:
“Rivers State is not Boko Haram territory. Rivers State is not bandit territory. Rivers State is not an insurgency theatre.”

He warned that treating residents “as though they are enemies of the state” was unacceptable and could further inflame public resentment.

In the petition, Amachree identified Wike as the key actor behind the political crisis. He declared:
“Mr Nyesom Wike must be removed from federal office immediately and investigated. This is a formal demand.”
He further called for comprehensive investigations by the EFCC and ICPC into alleged corruption, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth.

The petitioner also demanded a full asset and lifestyle audit, including scrutiny of “his Rolls Royce and other luxury vehicles” as well as “his properties abroad.”

Raising security concerns, Amachree referenced an audio recording circulating online, which he said allegedly captured Wike “threatening to kill a political opponent.” He questioned why no arrest or official probe had followed, warning that “selective justice destroys nations.”

In his closing remarks to the President, Amachree cautioned that failure to act on the petition could carry broader national consequences, PulseNets learned.
