A 40-foot container that fell on Aleto Bridge near the Eleme axis of the East-West expressway in Rivers State is thought to have killed 4 people.
Two smaller vehicles reportedly fell into the River after being struck by the container.
The incident happened on Friday during a period of intense rain.
Due to the stranded commuters caused by the collision, there was severe bottleneck on the route.
Despite several demonstrations by youth and other Ogoni land stakeholders, the Eleme axis of the East-West route has been in disrepair for years.

A youth organisation threatened earlier this week that if the federal government doesn’t send contractors to the road to start the repairs, there will be a significant demonstration there at the end of October.
The police leadership in Rivers State has not yet commented on the event.
