Rivers State Governor Sacks 1700 University Staff Recruited by Wike

Appeal Court Nullifies Judgment Seeking to Seize Rivers State Allocation

The Rivers State Government has sacked over 1700 Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni staff members.

PulseNets reports that the administration of former governor Nyesom Wike recruited the workers.

The workers were sacked over what the new government described as ‘irregularities in the employment process’.

Following the cancellation of the recruitment, the Sir Siminalayi Fubara led administration directed all those employed through the exercise to return the employment letter issued to them by the university.

It also asked them to return their Staff Identity Cards as well.

This was contained in a Public Announcement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, dated 13th July.

He insisted that the employment exercise had many irregularities and did not meet the standard set by the government, ordering that the exercise stands invalid.

The statement read: “The Government of Rivers State has observed with dismay the inconsistencies/ irregularities and flagrant disobedience to the directives concerning the just concluded recruitment exercise at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt.
