Tragedy as Phyna’s Sister, Ruth Otabor, Dies After Dangote Cement Truck Accident
Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, has sadly passed away following a fatal accident involving a Dangote Cement truck.
According to a statement obtained by PulseNets from Eko Solicitors & Advocates, the family confirmed her death on Sunday morning, August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 am.
In their words, “With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on Sunday 31st day of August, 2025, at about 06:30 hrs.”
PulseNets reported that the tragic incident occurred at Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, when Ruth was crushed by the cement truck. Shockingly, the accident happened just six days after she graduated from Auchi Polytechnic, cutting short a life filled with promise.
Following the incident, Ruth’s legs were amputated. Phyna, outraged by the condition of her sister, spoke to PulseNets, lamenting the ordeal. Her strong outcry compelled Dangote Cement to pledge responsibility for Ruth’s medical treatment.
However, in a more recent development, Phyna told PulseNets that the company failed to keep its promise. Instead of flying Ruth abroad for advanced medical care as assured, she alleged that no such support was given.
She expressed frustration, saying, “After all their promises, my sister was never taken abroad for treatment. They abandoned us when we needed them most.”
