Defence HQ Denies Arrest of Seaman Abbas Haruna Amidst Wife’s Allegations, Investigation Underway
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has clarified that Seaman Abbas Haruna, who was alleged to have been in detention for nearly six years, was never arrested.
The controversy surrounding Seaman Haruna surfaced after his wife, during a recent radio program in Abuja, claimed that her husband had been held in detention for almost six years. Her statements prompted immediate action, leading the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to order a full investigation into the matter.
PulseNets also reported that a video recently appeared on social media, showing Seaman Haruna resisting attempts by fellow personnel to disarm him. Although the footage abruptly cut off, the sound of multiple gunshots was heard.
Speaking to PulseNets, the Defence Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, insisted that Haruna was never apprehended.
“He was never under arrest. People are just making an issue out of no issue,” Gusau stated.
When questioned by PulseNets on the current location of Seaman Haruna, given his wife’s allegations of long-term detention, Brig. Gen. Gusau remarked that the findings would be revealed once the investigation concludes.
“Investigation is currently ongoing. By the time the investigation report is ready, we will inform Nigerians what happened and where he is,” he added.

Upon further inquiry, Gusau told PulseNets that Seaman Haruna’s wife was well aware that her husband had never been arrested.
“She knows her husband was never under arrest. At the right time, we will let people know what happened,” he reiterated.
