Seplat Energy Achieves Mechanical Completion of ANOH Gas Plant with Zero Lost Time Incidents
In a significant milestone, Seplat Energy Plc has announced the successful mechanical completion of the ANOH gas plant installation on December 29, 2023. This achievement adheres to the revised timetable and, notably, was accomplished without a single recordable Lost Time Incident (LTI) over the course of 11 million man-hours. The company attributes this success to the dedicated focus of the entire team on maintaining safe and secure operations.
The ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), a joint venture between Seplat Energy and NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) Ltd, is responsible for delivering the ANOH gas plant with a Phase One processing capacity of 300 mmscfd. Upon commencement of operations, the plant is expected to supply dry gas, condensate, and LPG to customers. AGPC plans to sell the gas and LPG domestically, while condensates will be targeted at the international market.
Critical steps outlined in the Company’s Interim Results announcement leading to the achievement of first gas included the drilling and hook-up of Upstream wells and the completion of essential third-party infrastructure, such as the OB3 pipeline river crossing and the Spur Line connecting OB3 to the gas plant.
The completion of the third well (ASSN-05) was previously announced, and the fourth and final well (ASSN-06), crucial for the first gas milestone, has now been successfully completed by the upstream unit operator, SPDC.
Looking ahead, the focus shifts to completing necessary plant pre-commissioning activities and essential third-party infrastructure to enable the commissioning of the gas plant and the commencement of operations, in line with Seplat Energy’s previously communicated guidance for achieving first gas.
Roger Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy, emphasized the strategic importance of the ANOH project, anticipating a significant increase in gas production. Brown highlighted that once operational, ANOH would provide two income streams for Seplat: wet gas sales from OML 53 to the gas plant and dividends from the joint venture ANOH Gas Processing Company. Additionally, ANOH’s gas is expected to contribute to reducing Seplat’s and Nigeria’s carbon intensity while enhancing energy supply to the domestic market.
“We now look forward to the completion of the necessary plant pre-commissioning activities and essential third-party infrastructure which will enable commissioning of the gas plant and commencement of operations. Our previously communicated guidance for first gas is unchanged.
“ANOH is an important strategic project for Seplat, it will roughly double our gas production, and we are focused on the path to first gas.

“Once completed, ANOH will provide two income streams for Seplat: wet gas sales from OML 53 to the gas plant and dividends from the joint venture ANOH Gas Processing Company, which will operate the plant.
“ANOH’s gas will further reduce Seplat’s and Nigeria’s carbon intensity and increase energy supplied to the Nigerian domestic market,” he said.
