Sowore Meets Jonathan in Abuja, Seeks Support for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Former African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has held a private meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to deliberate on the continued detention of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

According to credible information obtained by PulseNets, the meeting centered on the need for a political and peaceful resolution to the long-standing issue surrounding Kanu’s incarceration.

Sowore, who had earlier announced plans for a nationwide protest on October 20 to demand Kanu’s release, has been reaching out to key opposition figures and influential national leaders to rally support for the movement.

When PulseNets spoke to Sowore, he confirmed the meeting and revealed its focus.

“Earlier today in Abuja, I met with former President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss the ongoing detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Sowore told PulseNets.

“Dr. Jonathan acknowledged that this matter requires urgent and just intervention. He expressed genuine concern and emphasized the importance of resolving it in the interest of peace, fairness, and national reconciliation. What’s more reassuring is that he promised to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to further discuss this issue soon.”

PulseNets learnt that Jonathan’s involvement marks a significant development, adding his name to a growing list of respected Nigerians who have openly called for justice and due process in Nnamdi Kanu’s case — a list that already includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), and Senator Shehu Sani, among others across political and regional divides.

Continuing, Sowore reportedly stressed that Kanu’s prolonged detention is politically motivated and unjustified.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention simply because he dared to confront the deep-rooted issue of marginalization in Nigeria,” Sowore told PulseNets.
“Many other activists with similar cases have been freed or had their charges dropped. It’s only fair that Kanu be released without further delay.”

He further called on political, cultural, ethnic, and religious leaders across the nation to join what he described as a “noble and peaceful cause for justice.”

“I urge leaders from all regions — particularly my brothers and sisters from the South East: Mr. Peter Obi, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Dr. Alex Otti, Gov. Francis Nwifuru, Gov. Peter Mbah, Gov. Hope Uzodinma, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, and Chief John Mbata of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide — to lend their voices to this call for justice and freedom,” Sowore stated.

“Nnamdi Kanu should be set free. I remain firmly committed to mobilizing peacefully for justice and freedom in this matter.”

PulseNets reported that Sowore’s outreach to former President Jonathan signals a broader, cross-party appeal aimed at securing dialogue and national reconciliation over the IPOB leader’s fate.
