Ten people were killed in an Ogun tanker explosion

Ten people were fatally burned on Thursday when a tanker burst along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

According to PulseNets, the event happened in Ogun State at roughly 2:13 am, close to Conoil and before the Sagam junction.

A total of 10 people were involved, according to Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson in Ogun. All of them had suffered extensive burns.

Five vehicles, including a Mack truck with the registration number AKL198ZT, an Iveco truck without a registration number, a Mazda bus with the designation FFE361XB, an unregistered Howo truck, and the Mack tanker, were destroyed by the inferno, said Okpe.

Okpe attributed the explosion to speeding, which she claimed caused the Iveco truck to lose control.

According to reports, the tanker was struck by the truck, which caused a leak that started a fire.

“The Mazda bus got engulfed in the spark of the fire,” Okpe said, saying the burnt bodies were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

She added that some burnt vehicles were towed off the road, “leaving the tankers for the fuel content to be transloaded.”

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun, Ahmed Umar, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims while visiting the scene and urged drivers to exercise caution, follow the rules of the road, and show consideration for one another.
