A former minister of petroleum resources named Diezani Alison-two Madueke’s Abuja homes and two high-end vehicles have been finally forfeited to the federal government, according to an order made on Monday by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The judge issued the order finalising the seizure of the assets to the federal government while making a decision about the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) application in Suit Nos. 1122/2021 and 1123/2021.

A separate motion ex-parte, filed on September 27, 2021, prayed the court to order the interim forfeiture of the assets on the grounds of a reasonable suspicion that they were the proceeds of illegal activities. The Commission had secured the interim forfeiture of the assets on November 29, 2021, in a ruling on the motion.

The two properties, which are assessed at $2,674,418 USD and N380,000,000 respectively, are situated in the affluent Asokoro and Maitama Districts of Abuja at Plot 1854 Mohammed Mahashir Street and No. 6 Aso Drive.

A black BMW saloon with the chassis number B8CV54V66629 and the registered number RBC155 DH and a black Jaguar saloon with the chassis number SAJAA.20 GRDMv43376, both worth N36,000,000, are the two luxury vehicles.

Justice Olajuwon had instructed the EFCC to issue a notice in a national newspaper urging anyone with an interest in the assets to show cause why they should not be finally forfeited to the federal government as part of the interim forfeiture Order he had granted.

In order to get a report, the court adjourned until January 22, 2022.

The Forfeiture Order was published in Thisday Newspaper on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in accordance with the Court’s order.

The Court today surrendered the property to the federal government in the absence of any opposition to the Interim Order.
