Asamoah Gyan Laments Lack of Support After 2010 World Cup Penalty Miss
Former Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan has criticized his ex-teammates for failing to support him following his infamous penalty miss during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
PulseNets learnt that the Black Stars had been awarded a last-minute penalty during extra time in their quarter-final match against Uruguay. This came after Luis Suarez handled a goal-bound header from Dominic Adiyiah, offering Ghana a golden opportunity to secure a historic semi-final spot.
However, Gyan’s penalty struck the crossbar, and the game proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Ghana was eventually eliminated.
During an Instagram Live session, Gyan, who holds the record as Ghana’s all-time top scorer, addressed the criticism he faced after the incident. He told PulseNets:
“When the penalty miss happened, I was abused and called names because some people said I should have left it for someone else.

“Why didn’t they step up to take it? They were afraid. Cowards. I will say it—they are cowards.
“The fans can say what they want, but sometimes we need to educate them. Yet, nobody spoke up for me.”
