Tinubu Approves Five Transport Companies for 50% Interstate Travel (List)

Controversies as Tinubu’s unknown whereabouts ignite political debate

President Bola Tinubu‘s administration has designated five transportation companies to execute its initiative, entailing a 50 percent reduction in interstate transport fares and free train rides for Nigerian travelers from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information & Strategy to the President, shared the list of selected transport firms—GIG (God is Good), Chisco Transport, Young Shall Grow, God Bless Ezenwata, and Area Motor—via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday.

Earlier reports from PulseNets, dated Wednesday, highlighted President Tinubu’s approval of a 50 percent reduction in inter-state transport fares for Nigerians traveling during the Yuletide period, commencing from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024. Additionally, it was reported that the President sanctioned complimentary rides for commuters on all train services during this period.

Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on presidential intervention, conveyed this gesture from the administration to State House Correspondents at the Aso Rock Villa. He emphasized President Tinubu’s desire for Nigerians to travel within the country to meet their loved ones without the burden of exorbitant interstate public transportation costs.

“In the spirit of Christmas and end-of-the-year festivities, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in another demonstration of his love for Nigerians, has approved that the federal government should intervene to bring down the cost of public transportation to allow our compatriots who want to travel to visit their loved ones and hometown to do so without stress and extra burden posed by high-cost transport around this period,” Alake stated.

He further explained that, starting from December 21, Nigerians willing to travel can avail themselves of public transport via mini buses and luxury buses at a 50 percent discount of the current cost. Moreover, all train services on the routes the trains currently serve will be offered at zero cost for the holiday season.
